My Sweet, Sweet Charlie
Spring 2011 – December 31, 2020
Charlie came to our family on his own accord. Neighbors reported he had been running the streets for weeks before presenting himself to us on a beautiful spring day in 2012. We searched for an owner, had him scanned for a chip, and checked the Humane Society to see if anyone had reported a lost dog. No one claimed him, and he became a member of our busy pack.
Charlie was a soul friend. He taught us more about the joys of life, how to embrace adventures, and the richness of unconditional love. Except for fireworks and thunderstorms, Charlie always seemed happy.
Car rides, hiking, traveling, swimming (with a toweling off) neighborhood walks, playing with his toys, and being with his pack were Charlie's "Oh Boy, My Favorite" times. He was never afraid to ask for what he wanted - dinner, car rides, or pretending to be a lapdog for a “snuggle” on the couch. Often during yoga and meditation time, Charlie would catch me in a downward dog position and slide under me on his back, asking for a belly scratch. It was hard to deny him.
Hiking seemed to be in Charlie's blood. A few times in the hills with him, I learned that his IQ increased exponentially there, and I did not need to worry about him getting lost or running off. If we went off course, he led us back to the main trail. If the path was covered with debris, Charlie would find the most uncomplicated approach to navigate around and back to the pathway. If it was just me and Charlie hiking, he stuck close, knowing it was his job to take care of me.
Rain, snow, sleet, or hail, it didn't matter; car rides meant sticking his head and neck out of the window as far as he could, seemingly grinning from ear to ear, looking at people in cars, or walking along the streets. Many people laughed and smiled at him because the joy and excitement he radiated seemed infectious. As far as Charlie was concerned, faster was better to allow his jowls and ears to flap in the wind. You could tell he treasured it all. Truly the embodiment of loving to live to the fullest.
Our family has many memories of Charlie, and he will live forever in our minds and hearts. I feel so blessed and have an abundance of gratitude that he chose our household for his forever home. He had limitless spiritual energy, and he will be greatly missed.
I promised Charlie that I would continue to write for Charlie's Wisdom, and he promised me he would continue to guide me through Spirit. Until we meet again, my friend...
Namaste Charlie
